বাংলাদেশ ওয়ানডে দলের অধিনায়কত্বের এক সপ্তাহও হয়নি তামিম ইকবালের। দেশসেরা ব্যাটসম্যান বলে এমনিতেই তার ওপর বিস্তর দায়িত্ব বর্তে আছে। ব্যাটিংয়ে নেমে শুরুটা ভালো করা, সেটা টেনে নিয়ে দলকে একটি শক্ত ভিতের ওপর দাঁড় করিয়ে দেওয়াই তার কাজ। এরপর নতুন করে যোগ হলো অধিনায়কত্বের চ্যালেঞ্জ। যেখানে নিপুণ নেতৃত্বে দলের জয় নিশ্চিতকরণও তার দায়িত্বের মধ্যে পড়ে। একটু পান থেকে চুন খসলেই ঘোরতর বিপদ। মুঠো গলে বহু কাঙিক্ষত জয়টি বেরিয়ে যাবে। তখন চার দিক থেকে ধেয়ে আসবে নিযুত দুয়োধ্বনি। তাই বলার অপেক্ষাই থাকছে না দুটো গুরু দায়িত্বই তাকে সমান দক্ষতায় চালিয়ে যেতে হবে। যা বস্তুতই কঠিন। তাই ছয় মাস থেকে দেড় বছর সময় চাইছেন লাল সবুজের ওয়ানডে দলের নতুন এই অধিনায়ক। এর মধ্যে প্রত্যাশিত নেতৃত্ব দিতে না পারলে নিজেই দুঃখিত বলে দায়িত্ব থেকে সরে দাঁড়াবেন।

সিলেটে জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে সিরিজের তৃতীয় ও শেষ ওয়ানডের আগে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এসে মাশরাফি মুর্তজা জানিয়েছিলেন, অধিনায়ক হিসেবে এই ম্যাচটিই তার শেষ। এর দুইদিন পর বোর্ড সভায় বিসিবি সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়, তামিম ইকবালই হবে এদেশের ক্রিকেটের ওয়ানডে ফরম্যাটের নতুন অধিনায়ক এবং সেটা লম্বা সময়ের জন্য। আরও পরিষ্কার করে বললে ২০২৩ বিশ্বকাপের জন্যই তাকে অধিনায়ক হিসেবে নিয়োগ দিয়েছে লাল সবুজের ক্রিকেটের সর্বোচ্চ প্রশাসন।

নতুন দায়িত্ব পেয়ে গতকাল হোম অব ক্রিকেট মিরপুরে সংবাদ মুখোমুখি হন তামিম। তিনি বলেন, ‘সত্যি কথা বলতে আমি খুব অভিজ্ঞ অধিনায়ক না। আমি অনেক জায়গায় অধিনায়কত্ব করেছি। আমার প্রতি বিশ্বাস রাখতে হবে আমাকে কিছুটা সময় দিতে হবে। কারণ একটা কথা আসে সাধারণত কেউ অধিনায়কত্ব নিলে ব্যাটিং পারফরম্যান্স খারাপ হয়ে যায়। আমি নিজেও জানি না ছয় মাস পর এক বছর পর কিভাবে আমার পারফরম্যান্স করবো। আমার জন্য সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হলো আমাকে কিছুটা সময় নিতে হবে। আপনাদেরও একটু ধৈর্য ধরতে হবে। আমাদের যে দর্শকরা আছে তাদের ধৈর্য ধরতে হবে। দলের জন্য যা যা করা দরকার আমি সেটার চেষ্টা করবো। আমি এটাই চেষ্টা করব যত তাড়াতাড়ি এটা ঠিক হয়ে যায়। যদি ছয় মাসে, এক বছরে বা দেড় বছরে কোনো কিছু ঠিক না হয় বা দলের প্রতি আমি সঠিক কিছু করতে পারছি না, তাহলে আমিই হবো প্রথম ব্যক্তি যে হাত তুলে বলব আমি দুঃখিত।’

অধিনায়ক হিসেবে তামিম বিশ্বাস করেন একটি দলের পারফরম্যান্সের গ্রাফ নিম্নমুখী হতে শুধুই মাঠের ভেতরকার ঘটনাপুঞ্জিই নয়, মাঠের বাইরের ঘটনাও অনুঘটক হিসেবে কাজ করে থাকে। তাই সবার আগে তিনি ওই সমস্যাগুলো নিরসনে সচেষ্ট হবেন, ‘আমি যদি চিন্তা করি কিভাবে আমি দলটাকে সামনে এগিয়ে নেব আমার মাথায় প্রথম আসে মাঠের বাবরের ইস্যুগুলো। এবং এগুলো সবার আগে ঠিক করতে হবে। আমরা আরও ভালো কিভাবে করতে পারি। আমাদের দলে এখন কোনো বড় সমস্যা বা উশৃঙ্খল ঘটনা ঘটে না। আমি মনে করি আমরা বিশ্ব ক্রিকেটের অন্যতম শৃঙ্খল দল। আমরা আরও ভাল হতে পারি। ওই জিনিসগুলো যদি আগে ঠিক করতে পারি। মাঠে এগুলো প্রয়োগ করতে পারলে ভালো হবে।’

মাঠের লড়াইয়ে প্রতিটি অধিনায়কেরই নিজস্ব দর্শন থাকে। কেউ চান আক্রমণাত্মক ক্রিকেট আবার কেউবা রক্ষণাত্মক। তামিম ইকবালও তার ব্যতিক্রম নন। তাহলে প্রশ্ন আসতেই পারে কি তার দর্শন? তার দর্শন হল, আক্রমনাত্মক ক্রিকেট, ‘মাঠের অধিনায়কত্বে আমার দর্শন হলো, আমি আক্রমণাত্মক হতে চাই। আমি আগ্রাসী থাকতেই পছন্দ করি। একটা হচ্ছে, অনেক সময় আপনাকে পরিস্থিতি বুঝতে হবে। সবকিছু দেখেই আপনার বুঝতে হবে যে আপনি কী করবেন।’
